In todayโ€™s world, where information flows endlessly, itโ€™s easy to get swept up in things that may not nourish us. From the latest news cycle to social media trends, the choices we make about what we watch, read, and listen to can profoundly impact our peace of mind and overall well-being.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is the importance of discernmentโ€”especially when navigating negativity. Unfortunately, not everyone operates with integrity. There are times when individuals choose to spread harmful or unverified information about others. Some even make it their mission to attack and criticize, often without basis. Whatโ€™s more troubling is when people who should know better choose to engage with and validate such content, feeding the cycle of negativity.

But hereโ€™s the thing: what we consume, we internalize. What we endorse, we amplify.

Instead of dwelling on the harmful noise, Iโ€™ve made a conscious decision to focus on what uplifts and strengthens me for 2025. The words of Proverbs 4:23 resonate deeply: โ€œAbove all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.โ€ Protecting our hearts and minds requires being intentional about what we allow into our space.

Choose Carefully in 2025

As we walk into the 22nd day of this new year, here are a few reminders:

  1. Guard Your Consumption
Not every blog, video, or social media post deserves your time or energy. Before you read or watch something, ask yourself: Does this serve my growth? Does it inspire or edify me? Does it seek to destroy or cyber bully someone?
  2. Avoid the Gossip Trap
Proverbs 11:9 says, โ€œWith their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.โ€ Gossip and slander only bring harm. Letโ€™s commit to being people who seek truth and share it with love.
  3. Focus on What Builds You Up
Choose to consume media, conversations, and relationships that add value to your life. Whether itโ€™s uplifting podcasts, books that challenge you to grow, or communities that inspire you, prioritize what nurtures your soul.
  4. Be a Source of Light
Instead of amplifying negativity, become a voice of encouragement; be a voice of support; be a voice to defend the defenseless; a voice that condemns what is meant to destroy, and to not be passive aggressive about it. Share posts that uplift, speak words of kindness, and let your actions reflect the love and grace you would want to receive.

Walking in Peace

There will always be those who choose negativity over truth. But as Proverbs 15:4 reminds us, โ€œThe soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.โ€ Letโ€™s choose to be trees of life, planting seeds of encouragement wherever we go.

This year, Iโ€™m choosing peace. Iโ€™m choosing relationships and content that uplift me. Iโ€™m choosing to rise above distractions and focus on my purpose. I hope you will join me in doing the same.

I declare that our 2025 will be a year where we feed our souls with what truly matters: love, truth, justice, purity, loveliness, excellence , praiseworthiness and positivity.

  1. Thank you for this Kareen. This was a struggle for me especially with nothing really to do and i would find myself watching things on social media that really does nothing for my soul. I would find myself disliking people for no reason or just based on gossip and i know it was wrong. But i will take this advice and look at more wholesome things or just choose what i will watch on social media. I am very pleased to read this. Thanks again.
