In this month of February, we celebrate and express all forms of love.
Agape Love โ The highest form of love, representing God’s selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional love for humanity.
Philia Love โ Brotherly love between friends, built on shared values, trust, and deep connection.
Eros Love โ Passionate, romantic love, characterized by deep affection and physical attraction between lovers.
And, there is Storge Love โ The natural affection within families, like the love between parents and children, siblings, and close relatives. This love is marked by unwavering care, loyalty, and an unbreakable emotional bond, even through lifeโs challenges, ups, and downs.
From the time my daughter was born up to her 18th birthday, I would go into her room at night, kiss her cheek as she slept, anoint her with oil and pray for her, or just watch over her in the quiet stillness. Sometimes, I would wake up in the middle of the night and go cuddle up next to her, holding her close, feeling the warmth of my little girl. And then there were those sweet moments when Iโd be deep in sleep, only to feel a small, warm body drawing up under meโit was her, seeking the comfort and security that only a motherโs love could provide.
By the time February rolled around each year, I was already thinking of ways to celebrate her birthdayโbecause to me, she was my greatest gift, and I am a super planner! And when it came to supporting her? That went without saying. I would be sick, exhausted, or even in pain, but I showed up to every sports day, every singing eventโฆ and you better believe I was the loudest one in the crowd!
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” โ Proverbs 22:6
But love isnโt just about showing up in the good timesโitโs about being there when things get tough too. I remember one particular season when I suffered a sudden and terrible back spasm, the kind that shoots through your body with a sharp, paralyzing pain that takes your breath away. I could barely move, let alone get out of bed. And in those moments of helplessness, my daughter became my caregiver. She brought me food (Lord Jesus, it was salty tuh all… lol), helped me sit up, laid next to me singing songs to make me feel better, anointed me with oil, and prayed for me like I did for herโฆ She made sure I was okayโbecause love isnโt just about what we give, but also about the grace to receive.
And just as she cared for me in my moment of need, there were countless nights when I held her in my arms as she cried through growing pains of disappointment. Each time, I whispered the same words into her ears: “Mummy, got you.” Because thatโs what a motherโs love isโconstant, unwavering, and safe.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” โ Proverbs 31:25-26
This is familial loveโthe kind that is unshaken by lifeโs storms, strengthened by time, and rooted in a love that never fades.
Bonds may bend, but they will never break. Because such foundations are secured by genuine love, loyalty, and care.
“May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!” โ Proverbs 23:25
This Valentineโs season, letโs honor every kind of loveโespecially the deep, unshakable Storge love within family, a love that remains a constant source of strength, warmth, reassurance, encouragement, joy, safety, loyalty, and a true sense of belonging.
I understand that some people may have never known or experienced this kind of love – A doting mother’s love, or from family. But take heart in knowing that Godโs love for you is unwavering, and nothing can ever separate you from it – He is family too!
Happy Valentines Day to my beloved Trinity Clarke 246 โฆfrom your number #1 fan.
